To convert iTunes AAC encoded files to the ubiquitous MP3 is actually easy, but it will fail if the file has DRM.

First, click edit, then preferences to bring up the encoder menu

Now highlight a single or multiple files, or even an entire playlist

Finally click file, convert and create MP3 version.

And that's it, it's so simple and quick.
